You've got some facts slightly off. William Leighton Leitch was born November 2, 1804. Not November 22. Reference: 1884 Memoirs by his long-time friend, Andrew MacGeorge; also The London Illustrated News - Death Notices for May 5, 1883. The November 22nd date comes from a Thesis (December 2013) by Carolyn Hageman entitled: "The Unlikely Road to Success: The Life and Career of Watercolorist William Leighton Leitch". Also, he had 7 children, rather than just 1, 5 sons and 2 daughters, and was survived by two of his sons, some of them recognized artists in their own right. Archivists usually ignore the mention of some teaching works, especially the legendary tutorial water color painted for the benefit and in the presence of Queen Victoria, which has greatly simplified elements, referred to as the Mirus Modicus (or Extraordinary Ordinary Work as most of his paintings for his patrons and the nobility had much more complex or notable elements such as people, animals, castles, structures, travelways, waterways.
